Born in Belgium on Jan. 8, 1888. Having painted murals in New York for many years, Chappel continued in California. After a few years in San Francisco, he settled in Los Angeles. He painted decorations in many homes and public places including a mural on gold leaf of Tudor Home in Mission San Jose. His work was described as antique in effect, with rich old colors deftly handled to represent age. Chappel died in Los Angeles on Nov. 3, 1963.
