Louise Charlotte Koogh Holtum was born in San Francisco, CA on Aug. 21, 1872. Louise studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute before her marriage to Christian Holtum in the mid-1890s. Her painting was curtailed then due to raising children.
The earthquake and fire of 1906 destroyed most of her early works, making any extant paintings rare. Shortly after the disaster, she moved across the bay to Piedmont where she spent her remaining years. She died there on April 21, 1945.
