Biography Ludwig von Hofmann
Darmstadt, Ludwig von Hofmann completed his training at the art
academies of Dresden, Karlsruhe and Paris. Towards the end of the 1880s,
he moved to Paris, where he attended the Académie Julian.
Hofmann lived in Berlin, where became part of the artists' circles with
Corinth, Liebermann and Klinger, and became involved with the Berlin
Secession. From 1894 to 1900, he spent some time in Rome and in his
villa in Fiesole. From 1895 on, he was a member of the 'Pan' magazine, and
from1898 on a member of the 'Berliner Secession'. In 1903, he became a
professor at the Weimar Art School. From 1916 to 1931, he was a
professor at the Academy of Art in Dresden.
