Biography Mabel Palmer
Born in Denver, Colorado, Mabel Palmer became a painter of historical and contemporary western action scenes and also did numerous studies of animals. Among her subjects were wagon trains, stagecoach genre, trail drives, roundups, wild horses and Indian genre. Until 1960, she worked primarily as a woodcarver, but in 1960 she began painting in oil, watercolor, and acrylics.
She grew up on a cattle ranch near Burwell, Nebraska, and there was exposed to the subject matter she later depicted. She also learned woodcarving from her artistic mother.
