Biography Magda Heuermann
Miniature portrait painter, Magda Heuermann was one of Chicago's leading participants in
the miniature-painting revival. Along with portraits she also created imaginative Symbolist
works. Heuermann was born in Galesburg, Illinois and studied with Spread in Chicago and in Munich with the portraitist Franz von Lenbach, who she later wrote about.
Heuermann resided in Oak Park, Illinois and was in correspondence with the Vanderpoel Art Association between 1927 and 1941. She donated her collection of miniatures to the Vanderpoel Art Association. She was a member and officer of the Chicago Society of Artists and helped establish a Society of Miniature Artists in Oak Park.
Heuermann died in 1962, at the age of 103.
