Biography Marcel Cailliet
Marcel accepted the offer of his uncle, Emile Cailliet, to come to California in the late 1930's and study with Millard Sheets (Claremont College) while working in Pomona. He earned his BA and MFA degrees at University of Southern California.
While there, he met Helene Amoy, a native of Hawaii. They sailed in July of 1941 to the Islands to be married. On return to the mainland, Marcel taught at Arizona State Teacher's College at Tempe.
Marcel served in the U.S. Navy for seven years. He was commissioned as an ensign and sent to Camp Perry, Virginia, then Washington, DC, then to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He left the Navy, ending at the Navy Pacific University as an instructor and with the
