Margaret Overbeck was the second oldest of the four Overbeck sisters who founded the Overbeck Pottery studio in Cambridge City, Indiana in 1911.  She has been described as "the catalyst for this undertaking." (Newton 60).

The sisters, raised as highly independent women, created high quality decorative arts, and unlike traditional pottery manufacturers, they did all of the work themselves.  They made their products in their home-based workshop, designed and decorated in a room off their dining room and fired in an outbuilding on their property.

Margaret attended the Art Academy of Cincinnati in 1892-1893 and 1898-1899.  She studied watercolor, wood carving, drawing heads from life and casts and pain   ...  Displaying 750 of 1906 characters.
