Marion Hooker OSA (1866 – 1946)
A Canadian painter, draftsman* and educator, Marion Hope Nelson Hooker (nee – Marion Hope Nelson) was born in Richmond, Virginia. In 1868, her family moved to Ontario, Canada. She grew up in St. Catharines, Ontario and died there. However, after her 1907 marriage to Frank Hooker, a prominent Manitoba businessman, she moved to Selkirk, Manitoba; where she lived until his death in 1935 and then returned to St. Catharines. Marion Hooker’s work is discussed in several Canadian art history books. Early in her career she exhibited frequently with the Ontario Society of Artists* and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts*.
