Biography Marjorie Campbell
Born into a family of artists in Columbus, Ohio, Marjorie Campbell became a watercolorist of landscapes and marine scenes. She received her Master of Arts degree from Ohio State University in 1933 and taught in the public school system from 1934 to 1947.
During this time, she spent her summers traveling and painting and studied privately with Hans Hofmann at Provincetown, Massachusetts, Millard Sheets in California, and Emil Bistram at Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
In 1948, she returned to the University of Ohio as an associate professor of art, and also met fellow faculty member Roy Lichtenstein. From 1949 to 1978, she was Assistant Professor of Art at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
