Biography Marjorie Helen Thomas
Born in Newton Center, Massachusetts, Marjorie Thomas became a homesteader in Arizona, calling herself an "artistic pioneer" because of her devotion to recording the changing life and landscape in the Salt River Valley.
She grew up in the Boston area and graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where she was a student of Edmund Tarbell, Philip Hale, and Frank Benson. She also studied with Louis Kronberg and John Palmer Wicker. She exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1924 and 1928.
In 1909, she moved to Arizona with her mother for her brother's health, and settled in Paradise Valley, adjacent to Scottsdale, and she, her mother and brother each homesteaded 160 acres. Sh
