Biography   Mark Tahbo


A resident of the First Mesa in Hopi, northeastern Arizona, Mark Tahbo creates pottery that is classified as Sikyatki Revival Ware, named for the village of Yellow House that is known for its pottery with swirling yellow, orange and red colors reminding of a sunset in the desert. Tahbo's pottery, inspired by petroglyphs, is made from local clay, and is hand-coiled and fired in a pit, which he does in the tradition of his ancestors. Designs are abstract and suggest animals, birds, butterflies, and clouds. He applies his color with a traditional yucca brush.
