Biography Martha Mott
Martha Brandt-Erichsen painted under the name Martha Mott. She was born Martha Mott Davis in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She received her formal art training at the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston, the Art Student's League in New York and the British Academy in Rome, Italy.
Martha was first married to composer Alan Hovhaness. She later divorced, and taught art in Buffalo New York. In 1945 she married Viggo Axel Brandt-Erichsen, an artist from Denmark. They lived in Jaffrey New Hampshire until 1949, when they moved to Solvang, California.
In Solvang Martha painted and taught art classes. Upon her death in 1983 she donated her house to become the Elverhoj Museum. Except for pieces in private collection
