Biography Martin Drolling
Son of a cleric of a small Alsatian town, Martin Drölling earlier showed a disposition for painting. After an initial training in an obscure Strasbourg painter, he came to Paris and began as a copyist and portraitist. His art of all Nordic precision exercised copy of the Flemish masters of the Louvre, deceived Elisabeth Vigee-Lebrun, who employed for painting accessories. He also worked for ten years for the Sevres factory. Drölling debut at the Salon in 1793 with portraits and scenes of intimate kind, but consecration came after his death, at the 1817 Salon, the criticism does not dry up praises on his "great paintings".
