Martin Drolling

 (1752 - 1817)
Martin Drolling was active/lived in France.  Martin Drolling is known for painting.

Biography   Martin Drolling

Martin Drolling was born in 1752, the son of a cleric of a small Alsatian town.  Drolling showed an early disposition for painting.  After initial training by an obscure Strasbourg painter, he came to Paris and began as a copyist and portraitist.

His art was executed with Nordic precision, reminiscent of the Flemish masters of the Louvre.  The artist worked for Elisabeth Vigee-Lebrun, who employed Drolling for painting accessories.  He also worked for the Sevres factory for ten years.

Drölling made his debut at the Salon in 1793, with portraits and scenes of intimate kind.  Consecration came after his death, at the 1817 Salon.

The artist drew inspiration from his everyday family life.&n   ...  Displaying 750 of 967 characters.
