Mary Ann Unger, a sculptor and curator, died on Monday at her home in
Manhattan. She was 53.
The cause was breast cancer, her family said.
Born in New York in 1945, Ms. Unger began making sculpture as a child in art
classes at the Museum of Modern Art. In 1967, she received a bachelor's degree in art at Mount Holyoke College, where she learned to weld, cast bronze and carve marble. After a year of graduate school at the University of California at Berke
