Mary Colman Wheeler, American, 1846-1920. Born in Concord, MA. Friend of the Alcott family, traveled in Europe with May Alcott. Studied in Paris 1876-1880 with Jacquesson de la Chevreuse and Raphael Collin. 1880, Charcoal portrait accepted at the Paris Salon. Taught art classes in Providence, Rhode Island from 1883-1920. Spent many summers in France, studied in Giverny with American Impressionists Frederick Frieseke, Richard Miller, Karl Beuhr, Guy Rose circa 1907-1912.
