The following is submitted by Gary Stanley, San Diego, California:

Born in California in 1856, Mary Gibbons Cooper lived her early years in and around the Santa Clara area. She was the daughter of a Methodist Minister who was the founder of The University of The Pacific. Her Father was also noted for being a close personal friend of Jack Marshall, the discoverer of gold in California.

She moved from Santa Clara to Pacific Grove in 1905 where she become very active in the art community. She became close friends with the prominent Jacks family in Monterey and in her later years lived on Abrego in Monterey. Cooper specialized in painting oil scenes of the Monterey Peninsula.   ...  Displaying 695 of 1044 characters.
