Biography Mathieu Mategot
Mathieu Mategot was born in Hungary in 1910.
At the conclusion of his studies at the school of architecture in Budapest, he designed sets for the National Theater, and decided to settle in France in 1931. In France he designed sets for for theatrical performances, held jobs as a window dresser for the Lafayette Galleries and was involved as a fashion designer in Paris.
In addition to all of the above, he continued his work in painting which led him to tapestry work. During World War II he served as a volunteer in the French Army, taken prisoner, and was set free in 1944. After his return to Paris he set up a workshop for handcrafted furniture where he used many types of materials including glass,
