Biography Matsumura Keibun
Matsumura Keibun was a leading figure of the Shinto school, which was
founded by his half-brother Matsumura Goshun (1752-1811). Keibun
mastered the techniques of painting and was fascinated by the work of
Maruyama Okyos (1733-1795). The blend of realism and decorative beauty
had a great influence on him. Keibun was familiar with the scholar
painting and the art theories of the Ming and the Qing dynasty and he
was especially known for its bird-and-flower compositions.
