Biography   Mell Lazarus


Mell Lazarus (born May 3, 1927) is a cartoonist and creator of two comic strips, Miss Peach (1957-2002) and Momma (1970-present).

Early in his career he was an apprentice cartoonist working for Al Capp and his brother Elliott Caplin at the Capp family-owned Toby Press, which published Al Capp's Shmoo Comics, among other titles.  He is the author of two novels, The Boss Is Crazy, Too (inspired in part by his experiences with Capp) and The Neighborhood Watch.

He served as President of the National Cartoonists Society (which awards the Reuben) for two consecutive terms from 1989 to 1993.

He won the National Cartoonists Society Humor Comic Strip Award for 1973 and 1979, and their Reuben Awa   ...  Displaying 750 of 1128 characters.
