Merlin Pollock

Merlin F. Pollock was active/lived in Illinois, Wisconsin.  Merlin Pollock is known for modernist-leaning landscape, figure.

Biography   Merlin Pollock

A student of painting in France and Italy in the 1930s, Merlin Pollock was one of twelve artists commissioned by Harold Ickes, Secretary of the Interior during the Depression, to paint scenes from Alaska for the WPA. The goal was to publicize the territories of the United States.

The artists sailed for Ketchikan in June, 1937, and the project resulted in an impressive body of work, much of which has been lost. In 1995, the Caldwell Gallery of Manlius, New York acquired a significant collection of Pollock's work just before his death.

Pollock was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin where some of his murals are at the local high school. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and in France at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and the Fontain   ...  Displaying 750 of 903 characters.
