Michael A. Heberlein was born in Hanover (York County), Pennsylvania, on July 14, 1949, son of Herbert Louis and Madelein Meyer Heberlein. He later moved to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and there he received his liberal arts degree in painting in 1975 at Millersville University.
After a period of self-study in Europe (1969), he maintained a professional art studio on Grant Street in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, from 1976 until 1984 at which time he opened Lancaster Galleries, a fine art, restoration, and framing business that complements his studio.
