Biography   Michael Loflen

Mike Loflen, known by those in his artistic circles as "Mermaid Mike", was born in San Diego, California on July 21, 1954. He spent time as an Industrial Arts Major at San Diego State University. Loflen spent several years working for the firms of NASSCO (a large American ship builder), Kettenburg Marine, and General Dynamics in San Diego. The everyday objects he worked with in these venues provided inspiration for his "Industrial / Recycled" Ocean oriented art objects.

Loflen has been influenced by the works of Ed Roth, Rick Griffin, William Gibson, H.R. Giger, and science fiction writer Jules Verne.
