Biography Miguel (Bordou) Arias
Miguel Arias (Bordou) was born in Leon, Spain in 1841. He emigrated to Cuba as a young man where he worked with painter Antonio Rodriguez Morey as a set designer in Havana.
Later, Arias was one of a small number of professional artists who urged the royal government to create the Cuban National Academy.
Arias’s brilliantly hued landscapes identify him as a father of the Cuban Landscape School where the scene records both the atmospheric qualities of specific places in Cuba as well as elements of Cuban life and culture.
Arias died in Havana in 1915.
