Biography Miriam Harris Thornber
A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Miriam Harris Thornber then was director of the School of Art in Toledo, Ohio before moving to Tucson, Arizona. There from 1928 to 1933, she taught art at the University of Arizona, and for a year was acting head of the department.
"A talented artist, she decorated her home with many of her paintings."
In Rhode Island as part of the Harris family, she was a direct line descendant of founders of that colony. She was married to John .J. Thornber, taxonomist of botany at the University of Arizona.
