Like many of the artists in New Mexico at the beginning of the
twentieth century, Monika Steinhoff is a transplant from Europe. And
like many of those early artists, her initial visit to Santa Fe became
permanent. Living in Santa Fe since the early 1980's, she has been
inspired by the traditional Native American and Spanish culture and the
architecture of the area. She is primarily known for her etchings of
Monika has spent many years working in the print medium, though she has
been actively painting as well. In fact, she has recently begun a new
body of work focusing on the masterpieces of the Renaissance.
