Biography Murray McLean Fairbairn
“Soldier artists at Camp Roberts have been put to work improving camp morale during their spare time. Among the many talented selective service men are Privates Murry Fairbairn and Howard Bennett. Fairbairn is credited with animating the popular Donald Duck character for Walt Disney in Hollywood. Now that he’s sketching perfect squares and rectangles on the drill field with his feet and making pretty little designs on the targets out on the rifle range during the day, only in the evening can he return to his first love – dear ‘ole Donald!’ Many evenings a week Fairbairn devotes his time entertaining the boys of Company C, 80th Training Battalion, by drawing Donald getting into some kind of trouble with the first sergeant Nancy Dustin Wall Moure, ATASCADERO (including CAMP ROBERTS, CARRIZA/O PLAINS, PASO ROBLES, SAN MIGUEL, SANTA MARGARITA, SHANDON, TEMPLETON, ETC.), ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY BEFORE 1960 (Publications in [Southern] California Art, vol. 13, no.
