Nannie M. Dowdle was born in Utah on Sept. 9, 1862. Nannie arrived with her family in northern California in 1866. After her marriage to John Dowdle, she settled in Alameda where she had an art studio. By 1920 she had been declared insane and was a patient at Agnews State (CA) Hospital. She died there on Nov. 3, 1948.
