Natela Iankoshvili lived from 1918 to 2007.
Natela is the most significant Georgian artist of the 20th century. She studied at the Art Academy in Tbilisi. In 1995 Natela was awarded the Shota Rustaveli Prize, the highest art award of Georgia.
Her exceptional, representational works are characterized by rich, brilliant colors, which puts dynamic and broad brushstrokes against black backgrounds.
Portraits and powerfully colored landscapes are motifs her artistic focus, while stylistically a distant relationship with the art of Alexej von Jawlensky and Marianne von Werefkin well as the works of El Greco, Paul Cézanne and Henri Matisse can be established.
Natela Iankoshvili passed away in 2007.
