Biography   Nathaniel (Nat) Edward Kernell

The following, submitted July 2005, is from James Brown whose source is the obituary of the artist in the "Albuquerque Tribune", March 19, 1986.

A self-taught artist who painted abstractions, Nathaniel Kernell worked in oils, pastels, acrylics, woodcuts and linocuts. He briefly studied as the Grande Chaumiere Academy in Paris.

During World War II, he worked in traffic and railroad management and spent time in Italy, Africa and France as a military railroad specialist.

In 1977, Nathaniel Kernell moved to Albuquerque from St. Louis and exhibited at the Aldrich Gallery in Albuquerque, the Kirkwood Gallery in St. Louis and the Jean Seth Gallery in Santa Fe. He won a blue ribbon prize at the New Mexico State Fair.
