Biography Nikolai Gritsenko
Nikolai Gritsenko was a celebrated Russian artist particularly known for his seascapes. A gifted artist early on, he studied initially under Lagorio at the Imperial Academy of St. Petersburg, and was then sent to Paris to study with Bogoliubov and Cormon.
In 1890 he accompanied Tsesarevich Nikolai Aleksandrovich, future Emperor Nikolai II, on his Eastern Journey of 1890-1891. Asnieres, a particularly favored place for artists to painting including Van Gogh and Seurat, was among the subjects of Gritsenko's work showing his mastery of perspective, color, and painting en plein air.
