Biography Ole Johnson
Ole Johnson-Seboy was a Norwegian marine painter active circa 1815-1845. He lived and worked in Bergen-Seboy, Norway, where he painted watercolors of sailing ships, often with the Bergen coastline behind. He was often commissioned by boat captains to paint "portraits" of their vessels. Johnson's known works are listed in the 1999 edition of the Fine Art Emporium World Register of Ship Portraits. Information about Ole Johnson may also be found in the book, Ship Portrait Artists: A Guide and Dictionary for Collectors, written and published in 1997 by Karsten Buchholz, in Hamburg, Germany. The book includes five hundred marine painters from 1780-1930.
