Biography   Patricia Maureen Johanson

Installation artist Patricia Johanson is one of the female artists who came on the scene in the 1970s of Earthworks sculptors.  At that time, it was a pursuit dominated by males.  Her specialty became 'healing' the landscape with art by constructing gardens, sculptural paths, and walkways that move around in the landscape.  Johanson said of her motives that "artists who want to make a difference should keep their goals high and their personal needs at a minimum." On a grant from the Guggenheim Foundation in 1970, she built a mile and a half of Cyrus Field, a continuous line of marble, redwood, and cement block curves and weaves in an interplay with a woodland setting.  Her sculptures also function as pa   ...  Displaying 750 of 1563 characters.
