Born in Fruitvale, CA on July 25, 1907. Patricia Stanley earned an M.A. degree from UC Berkeley. Upon graduation, she further studied under Hans Hofmann in Munich and with André Lhote in Paris. While in Paris in 1930, she wed a classmate from UC, John Cunningham. Returning from Europe, the Cunninghams settled on the Monterey Peninsula. She soon was active with the Carmel Art Institute and became the first woman to serve as president of the Carmel Art Ass'n. She was also a visiting instructor in drawing and painting at Mills College (Oakland) and at UC. Mrs. Cunningham died in Carmel on Feb. 9, 1984. Member: SWA. Exh: GGIE, 1940. In: AIC; MM.
