Biography   Paul Chan

Born in Hong Kong and raised in Nebraska, Paul Chan, whose studio is in New York City, is often referred to as an activist artist but says he prefers to draw a line between his ideas on political subjects and his artwork.  In 2006, the Whitney Museum of American Art featured his work, Ist Light, which was a floor projection that became shaped like a trapezoid and referenced the collapse of the World Trade Center as well as religious themes including Rapture and the Second Coming.

Chan has traveled extensively in Asia, Europe and South America and was briefly a journalist.  His interests are wide ranging from history, politics, aesthetics and cultural studies.
