Paul Proehl studied architecture at the University of Illinois
(1907-1910), after which he worked as a draftsman and designer for many buildings in Chicago. Attending Chicago art schools, Proehl became an advertising artist beginning around 1918. In 1924, Proehl became a partner at Palenske Young, a well-known Chicago illustration studio located on North Michigan Ave. From that point on, Proehl's
illustrations appeared in national magazines for over thirty years.
