Biography Pauline Elise Leonide Bourges
Pauline Élise Bourges was born in 1838 in Paris. Bourges was
specialized in genre, landscape and portrait painting. Since 1866, she
lived in Auvers-sur-Oise, close to Paris, along with a group of painters
which became the 'School of Ecouen'. One of the pioneers of French
Impressionism, Charles-François Daubigny (1817-1878) was a helpful
patron of her art.
In 1879, her watercolour 'Eventail' was shown at the
'Salon' at the Palais des Champs-Elysées. In 1892, she exhibited three
works in the exhibition "Exhibition for the Art of Women", at the Palais
de l'Industrie in Paris. Amongst her well known works are 'Fillette au
