Peter Panow was born in St. Petersburg, Russia on March 15th, 1902. Educated at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts, his art teacher was a Professor Riloff. Panow's family was wealthy and under the watchful eyes of the Russian Revolution in 1917. With the help of well placed friends, he was able to escape to Paris.
