Biography Peter Malkin
Peter Malkin was born in British Palestine. His family returned to Poland in the 1930s to live among relatives but left again shortly before the German invasion of the country in 1939. His sister, her three children and other relatives were unable to obtain permits and stayed behind. Malkin joined the Haganah, the Jewish underground at the age of fourteen. His interest in art also developed early; they lived in the port of Haifa where he painted portraits, ships and landscapes. He was wounded on the Syrian front in 1948 and was taken out of active service. He painted in his spare time, wrote one-act plays for the troops and even acted in a few of them.
