Phil Hulebak (1951- ) was born in Fargo, ND. When he was two or three years old, his family moved to New Mexico. After a year or so, the family settled in Albuquerque, where Hulebak has since lived most of his life.
Hulebak studied fine arts at the University of New Mexico (1970-1976), commercial art at Casper College in Wyoming (1976-1979), and he still attends University of New Mexico continuing education art classes.
In his youth, he was inspired by Frank McCulloch, an art teacher at Highland High School, Albuquerque and, later, by Mickey McConnell, a painting instructor at the University of New Mexico.
