Born in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, 1914-1971, Philip Wass Brown spent
the greater part of his life there. He attended Bates College
for three years in Lewiston, Maine. A few months spent at
the A. K. Cross summer school in Boothbay Harbor provided him with his
only art education.
Mr. Brown had four one-man shows in
Providence, Rhode Island, and one in Boston, Massachusetts. His
work was exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in
Philadelphia; in the Eggleston Gallery, New York City; Symphony Hall
and the Fine Arts Festival, Boston; the Invitation Shows at the Maine
Art Festival in Augusta; the Rhode Island League of Arts and Crafts,
