Biography Philipe Chartrand
Philippe Chartrand (1825-1889) was born as the son of a
wealthy family of French descent in Cuba. Philippe (Felipe) Chartrand
studied in Paris, where he was influenced by the landscape painting of
the Barbizon School. Back in Cuba, he devoted himself to mostly small
landscape painting but without having obtained the recognition of his
brother Esteban, also a landscape painter.
For a few months in 1886
Chartrand was an interim professor at the Academia Nacional de Bellas
