Phoebe A. (neé Hoyt) (Pickering-) Jenks was a portrait / genre painter known for her depictions of women, children and the occasional landscape. Jenks was born in Portsmouth, NH in 1847 but settled in Boston, MA, splitting her time between Boston and New York. Her primary residence was at 310 Marlborough and then 290 Marlborough, Boston, MA by 1881. She married silver manufacturer Lewis E. Jenks (1840-1888). Upon his early death at age 48, Phoebe inherited his estate, allowing her to maintain an art studio at 5 Otis Place, Boston, MA and later at the famed Studio Building at Tremont Street (corner of Bromfield Street) in Boston.
