Biography   Rafael Yela Gunther

Born in Guatamala on Sept. 18, 1888. Having been paid to do Indian research by the Mexican government for many years, Gunther was an expert in Central America's Indians. While a resident of Hollywood in 1926-32, he designed the Guatamalan Palace for the Pacific Southwest Expo in Long Beach. He then returned to Guatamala City and died there on April 17, 1942. Exh: Billtmore Salon (LA), 1927; LACMA, 1928 (Guatamalan textiles); Calif. Art Club, 1929.
