Biography Ralph Douglass
Born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1895, Ralph Waddell Douglass had a varied career focused on the art world. At various times in his life, he was a painter, graphic artist, cartoonist, illustrator and designer, but first and foremost he was an educator. He studied at Monmouth College in Illinois, where he received his B.A. Following graduation, he attended the Academy Julian in Paris, Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League in New York City.
At the age of 25, he became an instructor at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. Leaving Africa, he headed to Chicago where he became a staff artist and cartoonist for the "Chicago Daily News". He was drawn to New Mexico where, at the height of the Great Depression, he accepted the
