The following information was submitted in November of 2006 by artist Jean Svendsen, who studied with Ralph De Burgos for ten years:
Ralph de Burgos was a naturalized American Citizen, born in Shanghai, China, in 1906, the son of a Spanish Father and a French Mother, both born in Egypt. The family moved via Korea to Kobe, Japan, during de Burgos' early childhood and he began his art training at the Missionary School there. The discipline of his Japanese instructors influenced his entire career.
