Biography Randall Exon
A follower of tonalist painting methods, he works from a small, wood-shingled studio he built for himself. His paintings are both realistic and dreamlike with an orderly geometric sense and often include figures and architectural structures.
He was raised in Kansas and spent his summers on a farm in South Dakota, where he developed a love of landscape. He studied at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, and there became interested in Tonalist painter, George Inness. Like Inness, he has the desire to idealize landscape and create nostalgic identification.
Exon is an art professor and in 1998, Chairman of the Art Department at Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.
