Born in Guadalajara, Mexico. Murillo settled in Los Angeles with his family in 1927. He worked at various jobs until 1930 when he was given a table at the Old Adobe Avila on Olvera Street where he drew caricature portraits. He signed his work, "O. Brero" (the Spanish word obrero means worker).
