Ray Jacob, a native of Los Angeles, California, was a first generation American born to German immigrant parents November 16, 1928. He grew up in what was to become an urban, middle-class neighborhood where he attended Woodrow Wilson High School and pursued his education in fine arts at Chouinard Art Institute (now Cal Arts at Valencia).
Raised in the shadow of the Hollywood sign, Ray started taking acting workshops but the Korean War interrupted his budding career. He spent many years in the US Armed Forces stationed in Korea and Japan.
