Biography Rebecca Davenport
A native of Alexandria, VA, Rebecca Davenport studied art at Pratt Institute and the University of North Carolina and quickly gained acclaim in the art community of Washington, D.C. in the 1970s and 1980s. Davenport’s early work draws heavily on the characteristics of photorealism including many portraits similar to the work offered here. These portraits are often of average subjects in mundane settings, such as the tattered sofa in “Dyzigotes.” The artist’s paintings are in many private and public collections, including the National Museum of American Art, the Corcoran Gallery and the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
