Reginald Cleveland Coxe was born in Baltimore in 1855, but moved as as a child to Buffalo NY. He moved to New York City in 1879 to study at the National Academy. In 1879, he went to Paris to study for five years with Leon Bonnat. After a short period of work in England, Coxe returned to America and finally opened a studio back in Buffalo, where his portraits were in popular. His best works are seascapes of the New England coast.
The last record of him after he moved from Buffalo, NY was to settle in Seattle, Washington. The City Directory lists him in 1914 as Director of the Seattle School of Industrial and Commercial Art. The last entry was in 1
